Fyne Audio Releases the F1-5 and F1-8 Standmount Speakers

Fyne Audio has expanded its flagship F1 series of loudspeakers with two standmount models along with a dedicated stand.

The new Fyne Audio F1-5 and F1-8 standmounters were unveiled at the Bristol Hi-Fi Show back in pre-Covid March. However, their release has been delayed due to various shutdowns. We are now pleased to announce that the latest arrivals of the Glasgow-designed, manufactured and hand-finished, speakers are now available.

The F1-5 and F1-8 are more compact than their stablemates and have been designed to bring that luxury build and sound quality to smaller rooms. While diminutive in size, these true point source monitors retain the accuracy enjoyed by the larger F-12

The smaller F1-5 unit mates a 125mm mid/bass cone complete with Fyne's FyneFlute roll surround, with a 19mm magnesium dome compression tweeter positioned at the centre of the driver. This full-range driver creates a time-aligned isotropic wavefront. The result is a true point source with vanishingly low distortion, high power handling and unequalled musical cohesion, says the Scottish brand.

The larger F1-8 scales up with a dedicated 200mm IsoFlare driver. Here a multifibre mid/bass cone is combined with a 25mm magnesium dome compression tweeter, along with a FyneFlute roll surround, cast aluminium chassis and ferrite HF magnets.

Fyne's BassTrax technology is incorporated into the machined aluminium plinths of both the F1-5 and F1-8. This system uses a Tractrix profile diffuser cone that transfers the plane wave LF energy from the cabinet's down-firing port into a 360-degree spherical wavefront. The result is said to be substantial bass depth and weight despite the smaller volume cabinets. Additionally, this tech makes the speaker far less critical of room position and placement.

The F1-5 maybe just 321mm tall but it boasts 87dB/W efficiency, bass output to below 50Hz and substantial 200W peak power handling. Meanwhile, the 470mm tall F1-8 reaches down to 33Hz in-room, is 91dB/W efficient making it friendly for even low power valve amplification while it can handle up to 360W peak power.

Furthermore, you have control over through the 2.5kHz-5kHz region, of up to +/-3dB, via a front-mounted aluminium dial, giving you subtle adjustment of the soundstage through the critical vocal spectrum without impacting the overall balance of the speaker. Also, the control can gently counter room issues such as being overly live or too heavily damped or can be left in the central 0dB position.

Naturally, both models are wrapped in rigid birch ply cabinets finished in piano gloss real walnut veneers and opulent burr walnut inlays.

Finally, Fyne Audio has also announced the dedicated FS8 loudspeaker stands, created for F1-5 and F1-8 but equally at home with the new F700 and F701 models.

The Fyne Audio speakers and stands are available now and priced at £2,999.99 per pair for the F1-5 in Piano Walnut Veneer, and £5,999.99 per pair for the F1-8 in the same finish. The optional FS8 loudspeaker stands come in black and cost £999.99 per pair.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
