Second Collection of Qobuz Sessions at SXSW Land

Qobuz drops second collection of Qobuz Sessions at SXSW exclusive live EPs.

Recorded in end-to-end Hi-Res at East Austin's KMFA Studio, Barrie, Caramelo Haze, DoomCannon, and Miss Grit live sessions are mastered by Sarah Register (Big Thief, Julien Baker, Kurt Vile) as Qobuz continues its "boutique in a superstore world" approach, focusing on independent artists and high-quality sound.

This is the second set of exclusive EPs, recorded live in "glorious high-resolution" at last year's SXSW festival in Austin, Texas. The new set of four EPs from the inaugural 'Qobuz Sessions at SXSW' collection features live-to-record performances from an all-independent line-up mastered by Grammy-nominated engineer Sarah Register.

Artists include London-based jazz composer and multi-instrumentalist DoomCannon, acclaimed New York-based indie rock artist Miss Grit (Margaret Sohn), Brooklyn-based alt-pop project Barrie, and newly-formed all-star outfit Caramelo Haze, featuring Beto Martínez, Alex Chavez, Victor "El Guámbito" Cruz, and John Speice.

All releases in the SXSW sessions series were recorded in end-to-end, 24-bit Hi-Res at East Austin's KMFA Studios last March to give Qobuz subscribers a true "like you were there" listening experience. Also available on the streaming service are EPs from Yazmin Lacey, Daniel Villarreal, and Shana Cleveland (also mastered by Sarah Register), released in December.

Qobuz's SXSW strategy focuses on the platform's "boutique in a superstore world" approach to music discovery and providing premium experiences for its hardcore music-lover user base that they won't find anywhere else.

The 'Qobuz Sessions at SXSW' releases come after the platform's first SXSW showcase in 2022, featuring performances by Circuit des Yeux, Moor Mother, Claire Rousay, and Marina Herlop.

Circuit des Yeux said, "Qobuz is one of the leading streaming platforms for contemporary music. They put artist-friendly ethics and audio quality before corporate profit."

Sujan Hong, Qobuz's Head of Music Content and Editorial, added, "I'm thrilled to experience these terrific performances again and to share them with the Qobuz community."

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
