Technics EAH-AZ70W ANC True Wireless Earphones

Technics today has announced its first true wireless ANC earphones, the EAH-AZ70W.
With 55 years under its belt, Technics knows a thing or two about audio. The latest result of applying that experience is the Technics EAH-AZ70W.
The EAH-AZ70W (£239) boasts a large 10mm dynamic driver with a diaphragm composed of graphene-coated PEEK material. Technics states that this delivers rich bass and a transparent sound across the frequency range.
Thanks to an Acoustic Control Chamber within each earbud airflow is controlled and optimises the balance of each frequency, says the manufacturer.
Technics tells us that the EAH-AZ70W sports active noise cancelling too, with the company's Dual Hybrid Noise Cancelling Technology that uses Feedforward and Feedback Noise Cancelling - capturing both the sound outside and inside the headphones. This is paired with a combination of analogue and digital processing for the ultimate in performance.
The earphones sport a proprietary antenna structure along with a Left-Right Independent Signalling System. The upshot here is that a Bluetooth connection is made separately to each earbud - no Slave/Master shenanigans here.
Additionally, there are MEMS microphones built in a unique labyrinth cabinet structure to suppress wind noise, improve noise-cancelling and retain call clarity. Furthermore, beamforming tech through the use of two microphones further helps to pick up speech and suppress ambient noise. You also get access to Siri and Google Assistant via the touch sensor. Touch sensor support for Amazon Alexa will be added later this spring – it can currently be activated from the Alexa mobile app.
Switching to the Ambient Sound Mode allows you to hear external sounds while listening to your content - handy for when you have to listen to your colleagues.
The EAH-AZ70W can manage six hours of continuous playback with noise cancellation turned on. The charging case offers two more full charges for a total of 18 hours of playback time.
IPX4-equivalent splash-proofing rounds things off.
The Technics EAH-AZ70W are available now in a choice of black or white finishes for £239.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
