Audiovector QR Special Edition Now Available

Official UK launch announcement of Audiovector's innovative QR Special Edition loudspeakers.

The QR Special Edition speakers were announced in November last year. They build on the impressive QR range's foundations to deliver an even more open, dynamic, and detailed sound. Furthermore, with seven models available, every listening scenario is covered.

The design goal of the new QR SE series was to offer the most advanced technology in a perfectly finished and proportioned high-end package.

The upgrades of note include new in-house-designed capacitors, which, we are told, result in a cleaner treble and improved detailing; improved heat dissipation via metal-housed resistors for even more stable high-power precision; cryogenically treated internal wiring resulting in improved dynamics and detailing; strategically positioned Nano Pore dampening material which Audiovector says translates into enhanced midrange openness; increased low-end precision thanks to bass reflex optimisation; and, finally, high-end stainless steel spikes with knurled nuts for better micro adjustment.

The Danish family-owned business tells us that the new double cryogenic polypropylene tin flash copper capacitors result from constant listening, measuring, and improvement. Moreover, they provide the AMT tweeters with the best possible conditions for a "sweeter, more detailed, and more open sound".

Meanwhile, according to the brand, the cryogenically treated pure copper wiring and Audiovector Nanopore damping material create a smooth and natural musical reproduction.

We are also assured that the Audiovector pure piston dual magnet bass drive units work like a perfect piston over several octaves of the frequency band without the distortion typically found in aluminium/diamond drive units. This should mean that music sounds warm, precise, detailed, dynamic, and, above all, musical.

At the other end of the frequency range, the Gold Leaf Air Motion Tweeter faceplate is tooled from a single piece of precision machined, glass-blasted, brushed, aerospace-grade aluminium that is then anodised in tungsten titanium grey. This also benefits from a rose gold-plated dispersion mesh, which works as an S-Stop filter.

The SE cabinets are finished in carefully selected real wood veneers and are available in White Silk, Dark Walnut and Black Piano.

Renaissance's MD, John Carroll, Audiovector's UK distributor, told StereoNET:

The new QR SE series represents a great step forward in loudspeaker design. Very often, an upgraded range delivers only minimal improvements in technology, styling, and performance. This is certainly not the case here – the focus development was improved performance; the new speakers deliver a hugely improved sound and at prefect price points.

The Audiovector QR SE series starts at £1,350 and is now available in the UK.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
