Beyerdynamic Introduces Latest In-Ear Monitor Lineup

At this year’s NAMM Show in Anaheim, California, Beyerdynamic has unveiled a brand-new range of in-ear monitors designed to meet the specific needs of musicians, sound engineers, and critical listeners alike.

The German audio specialist’s new series features four models, DT 70 IE, DT 71 IE, DT 72 IE, and DT 73 IE, each tailored for a different application, including mixing and critical listening, drum and bass, guitar and vocals, and classical and keyboard instruments.

The new in-ear monitors handcrafted at Beyerdynamic’s headquarters in Heilbronn, Germany, combine cutting-edge technology with meticulous craftsmanship. The proprietary TESLA.11 driver system is central to their design, which the company emphasises delivers exceptional clarity and extremely low distortion levels of just 0.02% at 1 kHz. Meanwhile, the stated maximum SPL of 137 dB makes these monitors among the most powerful in their class.

Ergonomics play a significant role, with each model designed for a compact, secure fit and sound isolation up to -39 dB—ideal for loud stages or studio sessions. Using hundreds of MRI ear moulds, Beyerdynamic has developed an ergonomic shape that it says ensures optimal comfort during extended use.

Beyerdynamic’s new lineup includes four models tailored to specific professional needs. The DT 70 IE is designed for live sound engineers and studio professionals, offering balanced tuning for mixing and critical listening while doubling as an excellent choice for high-quality music enjoyment. The DT 71 IE caters to drummers and bassists, delivering a robust bass foundation, recessed mids, and a strong treble profile for clarity and impact. For guitarists and vocalists, the DT 72 IE provides natural bass, detailed highs, and a slightly boosted upper midrange, enhancing the presence of guitars and vocals in a mix. The company claims the DT 73 IE is the ideal choice for pianists, keyboardists, and orchestral musicians, with a linear bass and midrange response for accurate sound reproduction and a subtle treble boost for added precision in overtones.

Beyerdynamic asserts that each model is built to withstand the rigours of live and studio use. With IP68 certification, the DT 70 IE, DT 72 IE, and DT 73 IE models are dustproof and water-resistant up to a depth of 1.5 metres for 30 minutes. The DT 71 IE meets IP65 standards, offering strong protection against dust and water. The monitors also feature a Kevlar-reinforced cable and a gold-plated MMCX connector system, providing a stable and durable connection compared to traditional 2-pin connectors.

Beyerdynamic has partnered with the internationally renowned Martin Miller Session Band to launch the new series. Martin Miller shared his thoughts on the collaboration with StereoNET:

Beyerdynamic headphones have been a constant companion throughout my musical career, particularly in the studio. I can enjoy the same high-quality sound on stage with this new in-ear series.

The DT In-Ear Monitor series will be available from March 2025. The recommended retail price is US$499 / €499 per model.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
