CHORD ELECTRONICS SCOOPS SECOND DAC AWARD IN A ROW

It's champagne time again at Kent UK-based Chord Electronics as its Hugo 2 DAC/Headphone Amplifier has won EISA's DAC award for 2018/19.

The award from the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) acknowledges Hugo 2’s long-established position as one of the world’s most advanced transportable DAC and an international class-leader.

Commenting on the award, Matthew Bartlett, Chord Electronics’ Manufacturing Director told StereoNET:

I’m delighted that EISA’s expert judging panel has once again recognised the technical and sonic superiority of Chord Electronics’ DAC designs. Our pioneering long-term use of powerful, programmable FPGA chipsets, custom-coded by our Digital Design Consultant, Rob Watts, has given our DACs a significant and time-proven advantage over competitor products, the overwhelming majority of which use inferior mass-produced and bog-standard chips.

Bartlett went on to add:

We were thrilled to win EISA’s European USB DAC/headphone amplifier 2016-2017 award for our Mojo DAC/headphone amp, and it is wonderful that the judges have, for a second time, acknowledged the benefits of our proprietary DAC technology, and our commitment to UK design, engineering and manufacturing.

We can agree of course as the Hugo 2, MOJO/Poly, and DAVE feature in a number of our own review team's arsenal of equipment. Congratulations to all at Chord Electronics for another well-deserved accolade.

The Chord Electronics Hugo 2 is available now and sells for £1,800.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
