CHORD’S POLY IS GO

We've been hearing and talking about Chord Electronics' POLY for nearly a year now. The add-on module that takes the now-famed MOJO (reviewed here and enjoyed by over 20,000 readers) to a whole new level is now available.
Recognising the huge market that is now portable audio, the UK's Chord Electronics have placed their bets on the humble smartphone being the source of choice, and the eventual decline of dedicated portable audio players; or at least we suspect.
The first of its kind in the world the Poly is a portable music streamer that when clicked into the Mojo Headphone Amplifier and DAC, enables music to be streamed wirelessly, "in the best possible sound quality."
It also expands the capacity of the music library you can take on-the-go thanks to the MicroSD slot.
From the press release:
By storing music libraries directly within Poly, precious smartphone/device storage space can be instantly liberated,
Ultimately the Mojo and Poly (or 'Mojopoly' as we like to say) make expensive digital audio players redundant. Poly's specialty is high-resolution audio, with support for the latest studio-quality files; PCM data up to 768kHz resolution and DSD64 to DSD256 (Quad-DSD). Supported file types include ACC, WAV, FLAC, AIFF, OGG VORBIS, ALAC, WMA, and MP3.
Full smartphone control using everyday apps enables effortless music playback whether streaming or playing music from the Micro SD.
Poly connects to Wi-Fi networks, including mobile hotspots when on the go, and remembers multiple networks with its auto-connect functionality.
It also benefits from Bluetooth 4.1, AirPlay and DLNA connectivity, offering uninterrupted music streaming when transitioning from indoors to outdoors.
Where Poly shines though, is its ability to move with you from home to your commute, at work, out and about, and back again. You'll never be out of touch with your music, and when connected to a high fidelity audio system, Mojo and Poly shouldn't be underestimated. Chord is in the high-end audio business folks.

The rechargeable LiPo battery offers up to nine hours of playback from a four-hour charge using the device’s fast-charging USB circuit while both the Poly and Mojo can be charged simultaneously.
Chord says that future firmware updates will allow native Spotify and Tidal integration, while the soon to be released dedicated app, GoFigure, will make the initial network set-up and device configuration settings a breeze.
Mojo and Poly are not only designed in Britain but the precision CNC machining, anodising, laser etching and assembly all proudly take place in Britain too.
Locally the Mojo sells for $799 RRP, while the Poly addon will sell for $1000 RRP. For a limited time, the Mojo and Poly together will be available for $1500 with a free leather case.
See it, touch it, hear it, at the Melbourne International HiFi Show, November 3rd-5th 2017 at the Pullman Mercure Hotel, Albert Park in Room Lake 3.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
