Denon DCD-1700NE CD/ SACD Player Now Available

Denon's new DCD-1700NE CD/SACD player is designed to partner with the PMA-1700NE amplifier.

The DCD-1700NE reaffirms Denon's commitment to physical music formats and promises high-resolution audio thanks to the brand's advanced AL32 Processing Plus algorithms and an ultra-precision DAC.

The latest in analogue waveform reproduction technology, we're told that Advanced AL32 Processing Plus uses data interpolation algorithms, up-sampling, and bit-extension to support high-resolution audio. Denon says the resulting playback is highly detailed, free of interference, richly expressive in the lower range, and beautifully faithful to the original sound.

The DAC in Denon's DCD-1700NE can decode ALAC, FLAC, and WAV lossless files up to 24-bit/192- kHz, as well as DSD 2.8 MHz and 5.6MHz tracks (the audiophile format of SACD).

To accurately synchronise digital circuits, the DAC Master Clock, fitted adjacent to the DAC to suppress jitter and ensure precise conversion, treats the DAC as the master when clock signals are supplied.

The Master Clock is the reference for semiconductor operation and optimises digital audio circuitry. Two integrated clock oscillators reduce phase noise, each addressing a sampling frequency (44.1 kHz and 48kHz).

The DCD-1700NE's disc drive boasts a high-class SVH (Suppress Vibration Hybrid) mechanism alongside condensed signal paths and minimised circuitry to prevent excess noise and preserve sound quality.

The hybrid construction of the SVH loader is said to provide disc drive stability, allowing for accurate decoding and signal reading. Additionally, Denon states the mechanism's low centre of gravity suppresses vibration inside and outside the structure. The upshot is that servo-related operations are minimised. Also, reducing unnecessary controls and current consumption allows digital signals to be read from the disc with optimal accuracy.

The new disc player has a Pure Direct mode which promises clean, detailed, and accurate audio output.

The DCD-1700NE is available now and costs £1,299/ €1,499.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
