ELAC Solano Speaker Range Launched
ELAC launches its new three-model Solano speaker series.
ELAC's Solano range comprises the BS283 bookshelf loudspeaker, FS287 floorstander and CC281 centre speaker, and promises to carry on the German brand's tradition and qualities.
Additionally, the Kiel-based manufacturer states that it focuses on overall performance rather than emphasising individual elements. ELAC says that it chose a sleek rectangular shape combined with a gently curved front baffle, elegant lacquer finish, solid aluminium base plate, and front-facing drive units to create a timeless look.
The Solano Series sports the company's JET5 tweeter that can transmit up to a supersonic 50kHz. The mid and bass drivers combine an anodised aluminium membrane with ELAC's AS-XR assembly process and utilise cast aluminium baskets. The low-end is further augmented by a down-firing system in the BS283 and FS287. This is said to offer an effective way of balancing the loudspeakers perfectly with the acoustics of your room. Furthermore, you can choose between mono-wiring, bi-wiring or even bi-amping.
The floorstanding FS287 is a 2.5-way, bass reflex system and has a quoted frequency range of 30Hz – 50kHz, whereas the BS283 still manages 41Hz-50kHz. Sensitivity is stated as 85 dB/2.83 V/m for the bookshelf and 87 dB/2.83 V/m for the floorstander. The centre channel has a 34Hz–50kHz claimed frequency range and 87.5 dB/2.83 V/m sensitivity.
The ELAC Solano is available from the end of February in high-gloss black and high-gloss white finishes. SRPs are €799 for the BS283, €1,499 for the FS287 and the CC281 at €1,199 per unit.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
