Epson Announces EH-LS800 Ultra Short Throw 4K Projector
The new Epson EH-LS800 4K ultra-short throw smart streaming laser projector has just been announced, and for people with space constraints, this might be the ideal solution.
Equipped with Epson’s proprietary 4K Pro-UHD 3-chip 3LCD technology, the EH-LS800 is able to output 4,000 lumens for both colour and white brightness, ensuring that projected content is sharp and visible even in brightly lit environments. With a 2,500,000:1 contrast ratio, blacks will be deep and dark, offering vivid colours. Epson also claims that the lamp-free laser technology will offer 30,000 hours of virtually maintenance-free operation when used in Eco mode.
Thanks to the ultra-short throw laser technology, the projector is able to beam a 150-inch screen size while being placed only 0.54m away from the wall. If a 150-inch screen is overkill, a more reasonable 90-inch display only requires a 0.32m distance.
The Epson EH-LS800 projector also has a good number of ports, including three HDMI ports that are fully compatible with all colour formats and spaces while supporting 4K HDR content at 60Hz. One of those HDMI ports is even dedicated to gaming, allowing for 1080p/120Hz signals.
Additionally, a 20W 2.1ch surround sound system by Yamaha is built into the projector, with the ability to connect a smartphone via Bluetooth so that the projector can function as a standalone speaker.
The EH-LS800 projector runs on Android TV, with the ability to use voice search thanks to the built-in Google Assistant functionality, and access to streaming platforms like Disney+, Netflix and more are baked in.
Epson is also offering a separate purchase of the Epson Ambient Light Rejecting Screen, which comes in at a 120-inch size and absorbs up to 90% of the ambient light in a room so that the projected images are crisp with good contrast.
The Epson EH-LS800 Smart Streaming Laser Projector is available for £3,299 RRP.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
