GOLDENEAR’S X-FACTOR BASS SUPERSUBS

GoldenEar’s compact 4-driver SuperSubs have landed in the UK. The new SuperSub X and XXL subwoofers are surprisingly potent for their size, which makes them easy to accommodate.
The impressive output from these Class D amp-driven subs comes by exploiting a patented dual-plane ‘inertially-balanced’ driver and sub-bass radiator topology. GoldenEar’s bijou bass engines will generate fast and fulsome low frequencies from beautifully unobtrusive gloss black cabinets.
Each model features two active drivers separated horizontally and configured with two passive radiators separated vertically in a balanced configuration designed to deliver a more even response in-room.
At under 14-inches cubed, the ultra-compact SuperSub X uses a 1400 watt Class D amplifier to power twin 8-inch ultra-long-throw active drivers, supported by two 10.5-inch x 9.5-inch planar infrasonic radiators.
Coming in at under 20-inches cubed, the compact SuperSub XXL system deploys a 1600 watt Class D amplifier to drive twin 12-inch ultra-long-throw active transducers supported by two vertically-opposed 15-inch x 13-inch planar infrasonic radiators.
Based on technology originally developed for the GoldenEar Triton One tower speakers, the SuperSubs' electronics packages feature discrete multi-band limiting and phase-perfect equalisation with a strong focus on keeping latency to an absolute minimum.
Inputs include a direct-coupled, unfiltered LFE input for home theatre and stereo inputs with low-pass for two-channel setups.
Each SuperSub is available in a gloss black finish.
GoldenEar SuperSub X (£1450) and SuperSub XXL (£2300) are available from June 2018.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
