Grimm Audio from The Netherlands Arrives in Australia

Founded in 2004 and based in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, Grimm Audio has finally made its way to Australian shores thanks to Advance Audio.

The company says its initial aim was "to combine the mastery of the greatest minds of audio experts, and we continue to do so." It also says that all Grimm Audio products "carry the joined insight of well-known scientists in the fields of audio electronics, acoustics and physics, fused with an intuition built on the experience of many years of focussed listening, professional engineering and audiophile enthusiasm."

We first came across Grimm Audio during the 2019 Munich High-End Show in Germany and noted that this was one brand to watch out for. Its LS1 standmount style loudspeaker (uniquely available in multiple configurations), even further unique in its styling, made our shortlist of one of the best sounds within the show that year.

However, what caught the attention of Advance Audio's Managing Director, Nigel Ng, was the company's latest MU1 Music Player - a high-end Roon Core and End Point, dubbed as the "ultimate digital music source".

Nigel told StereoNET:

We're often asked about a high-end Roon Core - more importantly, a demonstrably better Roon Core. This makes a lot of sense as there are plenty of end-points available, but as we know, the source is the most important part of the hi-fi chain.

Nigel undertook a virtual tour of the Grimm Audio factory recently, and what left him impressed was that "while being a comparatively smaller operation to some of the bigger names in the industry, they had all the right elements with a strong technical focus."

Advance Audio proceeded to purchase some evaluation samples some months ago, and the team have been "thoroughly impressed with the build quality and performance. More importantly, it passed all our in-house testing and we feel confident it is a product our clients will enjoy."

Further stock will be available soon, and pricing will be announced shortly.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
