HiFi Rose RS250A Updated Streaming DAC/ Preamp/ Hub Released
HiFi Rose announces its updated RS250A high-performance, feature-packed network streamer.
HiFi Rose's RS250A audiophile network streamer, DAC, and pre-amplifier is the follow-up to the Korean brand's Applause Award-winning RS250, so it has some pretty big shoes to fill.
While looking identical to its now-discontinued sibling, aside from now being also offered in a black finish, the headline-grabbing audio manufacturer has worked on upgrading the internals.
The RS250A is built around the firm's Rose OS and an ES9028 PRO DAC chip, taking advantage of an ultra-low phase noise 100MHz Femto oscillator; it supports hi-res audio files up to 32-bit / 768kHz PCM and Native DSD512 (22.5792MHz).
Feeding that DAC are the in-built Rose OS apps for TIDAL (including full MQA decoding), Qobuz and Apple Music. The TIDAL app even gives access to the service's music video streaming content for playback on the RS250A screen or via the HDMI 2.0 output - the same goes for YouTube video and music playback thanks to the Rose Tube app.
Rose OS also offers Roon Ready support alongside Spotify Connect and AirPlay, as well as enabling you to play music and video files from a local storage device (USB or SATA) or on your home network with a DLNA connection to any NAS drives or other storage devices.
Furthermore, the CD and CD Ripping apps allow you to attach any standard external CD-ROM drive for CD playback or produce high-quality CD rips through the RS250A's 8.8-inch IPS multi-touch touchscreen interface which can also display album art or video content, as mentioned earlier amongst other options.
The HiFi Rose RS250A is not just about streaming, though. Thanks to its extensive array of hardware inputs and outputs, including a high-quality headphone output, this component wants to become your audio and video hub and pre-amplifier.
HiFi Rose has used their new discrete op-amp technology for the output stage of the RS250A. This, alongside other premium technologies and materials such as a full linear power circuit, promises very low noise and distortion.
Additionally, we are told that audio data is separated from all other processes required to run the operating system, meaning the audio signal is never affected when you are controlling other aspects of the RS250A.
The HiFi Rose RS250A is now available for £2,349 (SRP) and is supplied with a Bluetooth remote.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
