NEW MARANTZ SLIMLINE AV RECEIVERS FOREGO SPACE WITHOUT SACRIFICING FEATURES

As first announced on StereoNET four months ago when showcased at a New York event, Marantz’s two new slimline AV Receivers are now available in Australia.
As living spaces become smaller and design trends become leaner, Marantz answers the call packing state-of-the-art features and performance into a compact and slimline form-factor.
The NR1508 and NR1608 both include 4K Ultra HS compatibility plus Dolby Vision, as well as a host of connectivity including network streaming of your music, Bluetooth and Airplay.
Best of all, they’re both HEOS equipped enabling seamless playback and control via the multi-room streaming platform designed by Denon.
The NR1508 is a 5.2 channel receiver with five discrete amplifier channels capable of 85 watts each. With six HDMI inputs and Dolby True HD and DTS-HD decoding, along with Audyssey MultEQ calibration it’s the perfect AVR for a conventional surround sound system.
The NR1608 is the bigger brother, offering all the features of the NR1508 but with 7.2 channel capability, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X 3D decoding. With eight HDMI inputs it allows for a wider range of sources.
It also features 4K upscaling and can create immersive surround fields from older soundtracks using Dolby Surround and Neural:X processing, while of course still being compatible with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD soundtracks for conventional 5.1- or 7.1-channel surround.
The on-screen Setup Assistant from Marantz makes it simple to get up and running out of the box. There’s also colour-coded speaker terminals so you don't get your channels all crossed up, plus an Intelligent ECO mode designed to minimise power consumption without getting in the way of your entertainment.
For the videophiles the NR1608 also features a full suite of video calibration controls for detailed set-up by an ISF technician, along with ISF Day/Night video modes. Read StereoNET’s guide here on why you should consider professional calibration.
Available in black, the NR1508 ($999 RRP) and NR1608 ($1,299 RRP) are available this month.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
