Pro-Ject Unveils Compact Amp Box RS2 & Power Box RS2 Amp

Pro-Ject Audio Systems has unveiled the Amp Box RS2 and Power Box RS2 Amp, two new additions to its reference RS line that promise high-performance Class AB amplification in a compact form.
The Amp Box RS2 is a fully discrete Class AB power amplifier designed to balance high fidelity, low distortion, and efficiency in a compact footprint.
Pro-Ject says the design delivers 3D soundstaging, micro-dynamic precision, and high power output, while its reference-grade tube buffer input stage is intended to add warmth and musicality to the presentation. It can operate in stereo mode or be switched into bridge mode, functioning as a single mono block amplifier for increased power and drive.
Encased in full metal housing for both aesthetic appeal and heat dissipation, the Amp Box RS2 is available in silver or black. It also incorporates built-in thermal protection, shutting down automatically if overheating is detected—handy for setups in enclosed cabinets where airflow may be restricted.
Alongside it, Pro-Ject has introduced the Power Box RS2 Amp, a linear power supply upgrade designed to provide cleaner, more stable power for the Amp Box RS2. Pro-Ject claims that its massive toroidal transformer helps isolate the amplifier from mains interference, improving soundstage depth, noise floor reduction, and detail retrieval. The unit offers switchable 35V and 45V operation, allowing users to prioritise either energy efficiency and lower heat (35V) or up to 25% more output power (45V). However, Pro-Ject recommends ensuring proper ventilation when using the higher voltage setting.
Both units are hand-assembled in Europe and are available in silver or black aluminium chassis. They are set to arrive at Pro-Ject retailers directly, but as always, we’ll wait to see how they perform in real-world testing.
The Amp Box RS2 is priced from £1,549/ €1.799, and Power Box RS2 Amp is £899/ €999.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
