The Activo Q1 Hybrid IEMs Targets Music Lovers On-The-Go
Astell & Kern sub-brand Activo teams up with Dita Audio to produce the Q1 IEMs for those with an active lifestyle.
The Activo Q1 hybrid IEMs promise to "please audiophiles on the move" thanks to their durable design, light weight, and focus on sonic performance. They should be the perfect partner for the Activo P1 portable music player.
Each of the Activo Q1's clear resin earpieces houses a Dita Audio-made PM1+ 9.8mm dynamic driver in its own white powder-coated brass housing. This is paired with a Knowles 33518 balanced armature unit.
Activo states that the PM1+ driver features "increased windings on the voice coil." and is the "engine behind the Q1," boasting a "full-range sound with clarity, speed and a punchy bass." Meanwhile, the BA driver is responsible for "augmented, airy highs."
The Cardas Mocca 2 cable complements the Activo Q1's drivers. This custom USA-made cable is constructed using 32 strands of Cardas conductors per wire, which are said to be "twisted to DITA's own specifications."
Activo says its new Q1 earphones have a 20 Hz—20 kHz frequency response and 109 dB/mW @ 1 kHz sensitivity. The impedance is quoted at 31 ohms.
The new IEMs come bundled with 4.4mm balanced and 3.5mm single-ended connecting plugs for greater versatility across audio sources. Additionally, Activo provides five Final Type-E tip sizes to ensure a comfortable fit. An ACTIVO x DITA branded mini Tanos Systainer case keeps everything safe.
The Activo Q1 in-ear monitors are available now, priced at £299/ €399.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
