The Definitive Technology Demand Increases

Announced today at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Definitive Technology has expanded its Demand series with the addition of floor standing speakers and a centre channel.

The Demand D15 ($2,498 pair) and Demand D17 ($2,998 pair) floorstanders, along with the D5C ($599 each) centre channel complement the existing three models of stand-mount speakers in the Demand series. Just like their siblings, they employ  advanced materials including carbon fibre woofers and annealed aluminium tweeters to deliver what the company says is "unrivalled room-filling sound, smooth high-frequency reproduction and precise imaging for a superior listening experience."

Michael Greco, category director Loudspeakers at Sound United, said:

We maintained the same level of craftsmanship and material quality in designing and developing the line. Listeners will see familiar technologies, including the 20/20 Wave Alignment Lens™, BDSS and Linear Response Waveguide. However, we also added newly designed dual carbon fiber bass drivers and dual side-firing passive radiators to the towers, which deliver some of the smoothest, most accurate and rich reproduction of any tower on the market in its price range. The center channel is the perfect addition to the line for home theater aficionados.

The new additions feature the same clean, modern look with a substantial bead-blasted aluminium baffle, aesthetically matching the existing models. Def Tech says "each cabinet is meticulously sanded, painted with five layers of premium gloss paint and buffed to a near-mirror (Level 6) finish, resulting in a harmony of understated sophistication and uncompromising quality."

The three models also come in both Piano Black and White finish in line with the Demand Series and will be available in North America early this year.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
