Yamaha Joins True Wireless Earphone Battle

Yamaha has arrived fashionably late to the true wireless party. Still, the announcement of its wire-free buds and noise-cancelling cans might have some of the established players looking over their shoulder.

Yamaha's TW-E5A and TW-E7A noise-cancelling true wireless earbuds certainly seem to mean business and offer bespoke performance where they not only adapt to their environment but also the wearer.

Additionally, Yammy has outed its new YH-E700A wireless noise-cancelling over-ear headphones as it looks to upset as many rival brands as possible.

Onboard Tech

Yamaha's new Listening Care technology can be found in both sets of buds and promises to deliver consistent sound quality across the frequencies at any volume. It achieves this via an internal microphone that apparently monitors background levels and corrects the EQ at different pre-determined listening volumes. Clever, huh?

The YH-E700A over-ears takes that system and builds on it to create Advanced Listening Care – which is said to be more dynamic in its application. We're told that the advanced system takes into account the dynamic range and recording level of the music signal, as well as allowing background noise to swing 2db.

The full-sized cans also add Yamaha's new proprietary active noise-cancellation. Here the music signal and background noise are processed separately, thanks to a nifty algorithm. The aim is to retain the integrity of the music signal.

Yamaha states that its "hero models" sport adaptive Listening Optimiser although only the YH-E700A have this feature listed. Using the room correction tech usually found in the brand's AV amplifiers, the Listening Optimiser adapts to the wearer and the surrounding environment by calculating how sound reaches your ears every 20 seconds. It can also tell how snug your earbuds are, and how good the seal is. Once its gathered all that info, it then applies a correcting algorithm every five seconds.

Long-Lasting

All the three models sport battery lives worth boasting about with the E700A leading the charge (pun intended) with 35 hours stamina. The TW-E5A true wireless earphones offer 26 hours in total (6.5 hours from the buds), while the TW-E7A betters that with a 28 hour total (7 hours from the buds).

Rounding things off, both true wireless models are loaded with Qualcomm's top-level aptX Adaptive Bluetooth as well as True Wireless Stereo Plus. You'll also be glad of the buds' IPX5 water resistance.

The TW-E5A (£179) and TW-E7A (£229) will be available from the middle of this month, while the YH-E700A (£349) is expected in December.
