MOON 680D STREAMING DAC COMING TO UK

Simaudio recently announced its new MOON 680D streaming DAC and StereoNET can confirm that it will be available in the UK from December.

Simaudio has taken the blueprint of the 680D's big brother, the award-winning 780D v2, as a starting point to craft this multi-talented streaming DAC. Naturally, being a MOON component, you can expect the use of the very latest in performance audio technology and the finest materials.

The 680D is an extraordinarily accomplished digital-to-analogue convertor and, at the same time, it is a feature-packed network streamer.

MOON 680D Streaming DAC

Thanks to a wealth of digital inputs, plus DAC architecture that embraces the finest in digital audio delivery (PCM up to 32-bit/384kHz and DSD256), the 680D will make digital music sound its absolute best, no matter the source.

As well as class-leading digital to analogue conversion, the 680D also delivers an easy-to-use and comprehensive network streaming experience. Furthermore, premium music services TIDAL Masters, Qobuz Sublime+ and Deezer Hi-Fi are integrated into the MiND 2 streaming module.

Additionally, you get Bluetooth aptX on board as well as Ethernet connectivity to ensure absolute signal stability. Also, the 680D is Roon-ready, and MQA certified too.

The 680D has been tuned and designed to be paired with the MOON 600i v2 integrated amplifier – a combination that the Canadian company promises will "take the listening experience to the next level."

The 680D can, of course, be partnered with any amplifier. However,  but when used with other MOON components, full system control is available through the bespoke app to guarantee enhanced user experience.

John Carroll of Renaissance told StereoNET:

The 680D streaming DAC is the response to the many requests we have had from both consumers and retailers who wanted to get close to the performance and flexibility of the 780D v2 but at a more affordable price point. The 780D v2 remains our reference performer, but with the 680D we now have a perfect partner for the 600i v2 amplifier.

Experience the 680D and 860A v2

You can hear how the 680D streaming DAC performs along with the 860A v2 power amplifier as Renaissance Audio will bring them to the Hi-Fi Live Show in Ascot that's running through the weekend of October 26 and 27 2019.

Price and availability

The UK MSRP for the MOON 680D is £8,900 (inc.VAT) and will be available from December 1st 2019.

The 680D is available in a choice of black or two-tone finishes. Additionally, a silver finish is also available - on a ten-week special order at no extra cost.

Stay tuned for a StereoNET review as soon as units land in the UK.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
