A TREAT FOR THE SENSES AT THIS YEAR’S MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL HI-FI SHOW

The Melbourne International Hi-Fi Show, October 12-14 at the Pullman Mercure Hotel, Albert Park, is shaping up to be the best and most successful show of its type in Australia with many exclusive releases and world firsts lined up to excite the senses of attendees.

Opening on Friday 12th October at 11 am and running through to Sunday 14th October at 5 pm; the show attracts thousands of music lovers, home entertainment enthusiasts, and those interested in buying their very first Hi-Fi system. Combined with Australia's only 3-day Record Fair the show is a must for vinyl and turntable lovers.

Krix Founder, Scott Krix.

To experience the very best in home-cinema, don't miss the Krix Cinema, a genuine 'World-First' event featuring the highest number of discrete channels ever seen (or heard) in a home cinema demonstration. Krix Loudspeakers, Trinnov Electronics, Barco Projection and Screen Innovations, combine forces in this purpose-built and newly created exhibition cinema, that has taken 12 months of planning, will take a number of days to build, and uses enough cable to stretch between two capital cities.

Hulgich Audio, Astor Loudspeakers

What would an Australian Hi-Fi Show be without an array of local manufacturers showing their world-class products? 2018 features Antipodes Audio (NZ), DEQX Processors (NSW), Elektra Audio (VIC), Holton Precision Audio (TAS), Hulgich Audio (SA), Krix (SA), Legend Loudspeakers (NSW), Lucie Audio (VIC), M8audio (QLD), Microphase Audio Design (NSW), Osborn Loudspeakers (VIC), SGR Audio (VIC), VAF Research (SA).

In Room Lake 3, Yamaha will debut for the first time its new flagship components including the GT-5000 turntable, C-5000 pre-amplifier, and M-5000 amplifier.

Into radio? This early foundation of music reproduction has not been overlooked with the Historical Radio Society of Australia featuring a selection of vintage radios and TV, and some of the best 1960s-1970s era Hi-Fi from its Pioneer Australia Museum.

If you've purchased a turntable recently you've probably discovered that they require patience and a little bit of knowledge to extract every last detail from the setup. One of the world's most renowned analogue and turntable specialists, Mark Dohmann, will be on hand to deliver his expert masterclasses on vinyl playback and turntable setup.

Still on vinyl, the first Strain Gauge cartridge from Soundsmith to be shown in Australia will feature in Room M4 thanks to Radiance Audio Visual. Drop in for a demonstration and explanation of what makes the Strain Gauge different to all other phono cartridges.

In the State Ballroom, you can experience ultra-high-end audio from Convoy International with the first showing of the recently relaunched in Australia Mark Levinson and Revel brands. JBL's newly released L100 Classic speakers and an array of other goodies from Harman Luxury Group will also be on show.

If headphones and portable audio are your thing, the outstanding Beyerdynamic headphones will be at the show and ready for audition, along with the benchmark portable products from Chord Electronics.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
